Tricky timber question

PRIMARY Industries Minister Tim Whetstone has sidestepped a question on whether timber processors supported the Liberal Party’s opposition to an inquiry into log exports.

In yesterday’s sitting of State Parliament, Mr Whetstone told the chamber of the State Government’s collaboration with the Federal Government to establish the Green Triangle Forestry Hub and the inaugural meeting of the Forestry Industry Advisory Council.

He was then by Mount Gambier MP Troy Bell whether the South East Timber Processors Association supported the Liberal Party’s opposition to the proposed investigation into timber exports.

Mr Whetstone said there were “still a number of vagaries” around the sustainability of the Green Triangle’s forest industry, but stopped short of addressing the question directly.
